We lost our dear dear friend Steve Burton last week. We had a most marvelous celebration of his life today-night. Re connections. Laughter. Tears. Shock. that we're here and he...

In the week between I've been in a life questioning freefall. And trying to face square-on my own death. Not from my perspective; I've been ready for that since...ever. But from what it means to the ones left to go on.

I know from Dad's death four years ago the amount of "stuff" that has to be done. It was replayed this week; the beauracratic and social responsibilities that smother the closest kin. So much to do decide arrange within days.

I don't have a will. We have no children. Evo will get everything: complete ownership of our assets, and the duty to put me to 'rest'.

So here, for the record, is my "When I die" list. I've also hand written it, and it will go into the back pocket of my ongoing daily journal. But, in all the upheaval that is death, I can't count on him finding it when he needs it. So it will forever be posted here. And those of you who care, when the time comes, pass it to him. Somehow. Gently. Thank you.

When I Die
To medical research (as wanted) then cremated. Ashes spread: with Jemma and Keeta (and Lucky?); on Shawnigan Lake, BC; at Oxner's Beach, NS.

At Shawnigan Lake School or Steeples Restaurant. Or ??? (I don't really care as long as everyone is fed and comfortable.)

Anything by Rumi (an antholgoy is in our home library)
"The Road Less Traveled" by Robert Frost.
Freeform thoughts, memories, tales etc. by whoever wants.

Long Night - Rawlins Cross. (I'd like this to be some kind of processional, (pay attention segment.)
And, in no particular order...
Set Them Free - Sting (and, as Evo knows, the whole Dream of the Blue Turtles cd)
This is Love - Amanda Marshall (for her self-titled debut cd. All of the rest too)
Still Life (Talking) - Pat Metheny
Supernatural - Santana (the whole thing)
Bound by the Beauty - Jane Siberry (any...all)
Halellujah - kd lang version (and the rest of North of the 49th Parallel)
anything by Yoyo Ma
Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd ( loud loud loud at the end of the night)

Other fills...anything Beatles, Hawksley Workman, David Grey, Joni.

Food: anything that teases the palate (Brad...Darren...Gerald...James...Jen...Mom).

Mostly have fun. Laugh more than you cry. And carry on.

Why did I not know about TED: Technology Entertainment Design
I happened on it this afternoon and it was a perfect way to while away the afternoon as I snuggled on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, feeling hazy and flu-ish. TED kept my mind off the aches and fever perfectly. Definitely a new addiction!

This is the one I started with. Get a cup of your fave bevie, sit back and give yourself the 20-minutes to enjoy! (Warning: this version takes a while to load in on my slow hook up, but works smooth as silk if I go directly to the TED site.)

...listen to the children.

Dear President Obama,
If I were president, I would tell people to not talk too much. It wastes time. I’d also say to war: no more, no more, no more!
— Catherine Galvan, age 6, Chicago
